Alexander Dauvin Mosaic Opal Watch

Alexander Dauvin Mosaic Opal Watch

Alexander Dauvin wristwatch with a mosaic opal dial that flashes blue, green and red, in a round silver-toned case on a black strap. An Australian opal watch from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum.

The dial of this Alexander Dauvin watch is made from mosaic opal: many small, angular pieces of opal fitted together like tiny tiles. Each fragment catches the light differently, so the whole face shimmers with electric blue, vivid green and violet, with flashes of red and orange appearing between them. The dark body tone of the pieces keeps the colours bright and gives the dial real depth.

The mosaic pattern is irregular and lively. Some fragments glow deep blue, others flare bright green, and small touches of red show up here and there, so the dial looks different from every angle as your wrist moves.

The round, silver-toned case has a dark inner ring with fine white minute markers and hour batons. Slim copper-toned hands sit over the opal, and the dial is marked with the Alexander Dauvin name, "Timepiece" and "Swiss Movt". A black strap with fine stitching completes the piece. This Australian opal watch comes from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum in Coober Pedy.
