These drop earrings pair two smooth, domed teardrop-shaped opals, each held in a neat bezel setting in gold plated sterling silver. The rounded pear outline suits the soft curve of the stone, and the slim metal rim keeps the focus on the opal. Each stone hangs from a small loop beneath a simple hook fitting, so the earrings swing gently as you move.

The stones are triplet opals. A triplet is made from a very thin slice of natural opal that is backed with a dark base layer and capped with a clear dome of quartz or glass. The cap protects the delicate opal layer and magnifies it, and triplets are known for showing vivid play of colour, with flashes that shift as the light changes. Because they are layered stones, they are not solid opal.
