This pendant features a pear-shaped triplet opal, measuring 6mm x 4mm, set in sterling silver. A triplet is made from a thin slice of precious opal backed with a dark base and capped with a clear layer of quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and gives the stone a smooth, glossy dome. Triplets are known for vivid play of colour, with flashes that shift as the stone moves in the light. A triplet is not a solid opal.
