These stud earrings pair a small oval triplet opal with a graceful open-work sterling silver setting. Each stone measures 6mm x 4mm and sits in a smooth oval bezel, surrounded by looping silver bands that curve outward like petals and give the design a light, airy outline.

A triplet opal is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a clear layer of quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and deepens its colour, and triplets are known for lively play of colour that flashes as the earrings catch the light. Because a triplet is a layered stone, it is not a solid opal.
