This pendant from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum features an oval triplet opal with a stone size of 7mm x 5mm. It is held in a sterling silver setting made of open, flowing metalwork. Fine curving lines loop around the stone and sweep up into a graceful bail.

A triplet is made from a thin slice of natural opal with a dark backing beneath it and a clear cap of quartz or glass on top. The cap protects the opal and gives the stone a smooth, glossy dome. Triplets are known for lively play of colour, where flashes of spectral colour shift and shimmer as the stone moves in the light.
