This pendant pairs an oval triplet opal, 8mm x 6mm, with a simple bezel setting in gold plated sterling silver. A triplet is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base layer and capped with a clear dome of quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and gives the stone a glossy, smooth surface, and the dark backing helps bring out the opal's play of colour, the flashes of spectral colour that move and shift as the stone is turned in the light.
