Oval triplet opal pendant, stone size 8mm x 6mm, in a bezel setting of gold plated sterling silver. Every opal is hand-selected and unique, so its colours and pattern will differ from the photo.

This pendant features an oval triplet opal, 8mm x 6mm, in a simple bezel setting of gold plated sterling silver. A smooth metal rim wraps around the stone's edge and holds it securely. A small bail at the top lets the pendant hang from a chain.

A triplet opal is made from three layers. A thin slice of natural opal is backed with a dark base and capped with a dome of clear quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and gives the stone a glossy finish. Triplets are known for their vivid play of colour, where flashes of colour shift as the stone moves in the light. Because the opal is a thin slice joined to other layers, it is a triplet and not a solid opal.
