Oval triplet opal pendant (stone size 8mm x 6mm) in gold plated sterling silver with an open, flowing frame. Each opal is hand-selected, so your stone will differ from the photo.

This pendant centres on an oval triplet opal, bezel set and framed by open ribbons of polished metal that sweep around the stone in a flowing, leaf-like outline. The stone size is 8mm x 6mm. A neat bail at the top lets the pendant hang from a chain.

A triplet is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base layer and capped with a clear dome of quartz or glass. The cap protects the delicate opal and can add depth to the stone. Triplets are known for bright, shifting flashes of spectral colour, called play of colour, that move as the pendant catches the light. Because it is built in layers, this is a triplet opal and not a solid opal.
