This little koala pendant is cast in gold plated sterling silver. The koala sits with its round ears and detailed face, and it holds a small oval opal against its body. The pendant hangs from a simple bail.

The opal is a triplet. A triplet is made from a thin slice of natural opal. The slice is backed with a dark layer and capped with clear quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and gives it a smooth, domed look. Triplets are known for their play of colour, where flashes of spectral colour shift as the stone moves in the light.
