These heart-shaped stud earrings in sterling silver each frame a small oval triplet opal, with the open outline of the heart wrapping around the stone. Each stone measures 6mm x 4mm, a neat size for everyday wear.

A triplet opal is made from a very thin slice of natural opal, backed with a dark layer and capped with a clear dome of quartz or glass. The cap adds protection and helps bring out the opal's play of colour, the shifting flashes of spectral colour that make opal so loved. Because it is built in layers, it is a triplet and not a solid opal.
