Oval triplet opal, 7mm x 5mm, in an open heart pendant of gold plated sterling silver. Every opal is hand-selected, so its colours and pattern will differ from the photo.

This heart pendant pairs a 7mm x 5mm oval triplet opal with a graceful open heart outline in gold plated sterling silver. The oval stone sits within its own fine rim at the centre of the heart, framed by the curving gold-toned metal, and a polished bail at the top lets the pendant hang from a chain of your choice.

A triplet opal is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a layer of clear quartz or glass. The dark backing makes the colour stand out, and triplets are known for lively flashes of play of colour, while the clear cap protects the delicate opal layer. Because it is layered, it is a triplet and not a solid opal.
