These drop earrings pair a 7mm x 5mm oval triplet opal with a clean, open teardrop-shaped sterling silver frame. The polished outline follows the curve of the stone and draws the eye to the opal at the centre, while the frame's open shape keeps the design light and elegant.

A triplet opal is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a clear layer of quartz or glass. The dark backing helps the colour stand out, and the cap protects the delicate opal slice. Triplets are known for their lively play of colour, with flashes that shift as the light and angle change. Because it is layered, a triplet is not a solid opal.
