These drop earrings pair a neat oval triplet opal with a simple sterling silver setting. Each stone measures 7mm x 5mm and sits in a smooth bezel, a thin metal rim that wraps around the edge of the opal and holds it securely. A small jump ring joins the bezel to a slim, straight bar, which hangs from a round ball stud top so the opal swings gently as you move.

A triplet opal is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a clear layer of quartz or glass. The dark backing helps the colour stand out, and the clear cap protects the delicate opal beneath and gives the stone a domed, glossy finish. Triplets are known for vivid play of colour, where flashes of blues, greens and other spectral colours shift as the stone catches the light. They are not solid opal.
