These drop earrings feature a pair of oval triplet opals, each 9mm x 7mm, set in gold plated sterling silver. A triplet is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a clear layer of quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and gives the stone a smooth, glossy dome. Triplets are known for bright flashes of spectral colour that shift as the light changes and the earrings move.
