These drop earrings pair a small oval triplet opal with a clean, simple gold plated sterling silver setting. Each stone measures 6mm x 4mm and is held in a smooth bezel-style surround that frames the opal's edge. A short straight bar links the stone to a round ball top, so the opal hangs gently below the ear.

A triplet opal is made from a thin slice of natural opal backed with a dark base and capped with a layer of clear quartz or glass. The cap protects the opal and deepens its colour, and triplets are known for bright flashes of colour that move as the light changes. Because it is built in layers, a triplet is not a solid opal.
