This open heart pendant from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum pairs a polished sterling silver outline with a small heart-shaped solid opal measuring 5mm x 5mm. The heart frame is drawn in a flowing, open line, with fine decorative detailing along its upper curve, and the opal sits low inside the heart, held by claws.

A solid opal is cut from a single piece of natural opal, with no backing or cap. Opal of this kind is known for its play of colour, where flashes of spectral colour appear and shift as the stone moves in the light.
