A pair of oval doublet opal stud earrings in gold plated sterling silver, each set with a hand-selected 9mm x 7mm opal in a bezel setting.

These oval stud earrings each hold a doublet opal measuring 9mm x 7mm, set in a smooth bezel with a fine polished rim that follows the outline of the stone. The setting is made in gold plated sterling silver. Its clean, simple lines keep the focus on the opal and suit everyday wear.

A doublet is a thin slice of natural opal bonded to a dark backing. The backing strengthens the slice and deepens the colour, so the stone can show the flashes of colour opal is loved for, shifting as the earring catches the light. Because the opal is a thin layer on a backing, a doublet is not a solid opal.
