These cufflinks each carry a rectangular panel of mosaic opal, made from many small angular pieces of opal fitted together like a miniature stained-glass window. Each fragment catches the light differently, so the surface shifts as the wrist moves.

The play of colour is led by vivid greens and electric blues, with violet and purple patches and flashes of red and orange, mostly towards the edges of the panels. Against the deep, dark tones of the opal, the colours look rich and lively. No two fragments match, so the pattern is busy and varied across both cufflinks.

Each panel sits flush in a smooth, gold-toned frame with a bevelled, slightly raised edge. This gives the piece a clean, tailored look that suits a business shirt or formal wear. A curved bar-style fitting on the back holds each cufflink in the cuff. This piece comes from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum in Coober Pedy.
