Ladies wristwatch by Alexander Dauvin with a round mosaic opal dial in blues, violets and greens, a silver-toned case and a black strap.

The dial of this Alexander Dauvin ladies watch is a mosaic of opal, made up of many small angular pieces fitted together like a jigsaw. Deep blue and violet dominate the pattern, with patches of bright green and flashes of orange and red that shift as the wrist moves. Each fragment catches the light differently, so the whole dial seems to shimmer and change colour.

Around the opal, a pale, silvery surround is stepped in fine concentric rings, drawing the eye inward to the round dial. Four small sparkling stones mark twelve, three, six and nine. Slim rose-toned hands sweep across the opal, and the dial is printed in white with the Alexander Dauvin name, a small crown emblem and the word TIMEPIECE. A "Swiss Movt" mark sits near the base of the dial.

The round case is silver-toned, with a small crown on the side for setting the time. It sits on a smooth black strap with fine stitching, a classic partner for the dial's rich colours. This piece comes from Umoona Opal Mine & Museum in Coober Pedy.
